The Australian picture
Depression and anxiety are the most common reasons Australians see a doctor for mental health.
Most people respond to first-line GP care or psychology. When they don't, a specialist review can clarify the diagnosis, rationalise treatment, and break a stuck pattern — without starting again from scratch.

Who it's for
Is a specialist depression and anxiety review right for you?
A good fit if
- You're 18 or older and live in Australia
- You have depression, anxiety, or both — and first-line treatment hasn't fully worked
- Your GP has suggested specialist review, or you'd like a fresh perspective on your plan
- You're ready to engage with a structured assessment and an evidence-based treatment plan
Not the right fit if
- —You're under 18 — we're an adult-only service
- —You're in acute crisis or having thoughts of self-harm — please contact Lifeline (13 11 14) or your local hospital
- —You're seeking medication prescribing without an assessment
- —You need long-term psychotherapy (we can refer you to a psychologist as part of the plan)
The pathway
How a depression and anxiety review works at SetMind.
A structured, RANZCP-aligned review in four clear steps — from GP referral to written specialist plan you and your GP can follow.
Get a GP referral
Your GP writes a Mental Health Treatment Plan referral. This unlocks Medicare rebates under MBS items 296, 297 and 299.
Book & complete intake
Choose a time that suits you. We send validated measures (PHQ-9, GAD-7) and a brief history form to complete before the appointment.
45–60 min telehealth review
Your psychiatrist conducts a structured DSM-5-TR interview, reviews your current treatment, and screens for overlapping conditions.
Treatment plan to your GP
You leave with a clear plan covering medication, psychology, and lifestyle. A specialist report goes to your GP within 5 business days.
Clinical standards
The framework, guidelines, and credentials behind your review.
Diagnostic framework
Every review uses DSM-5-TR criteria with a structured interview supported by the PHQ-9 (depression), GAD-7 (generalised anxiety), and condition-specific screeners as indicated (PCL-5 for trauma, MDQ for bipolar features).
National guidelines
Pharmacological and psychological recommendations follow the RANZCP Clinical Practice Guidelines for Mood Disorders (2020) and contemporary RANZCP/NICE anxiety disorder guidance.
Specialist credentials
Every clinician is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) and registered as a Specialist Psychiatrist with AHPRA.
